Knife Sharpener Roundup
There are many reasons to keep your knives sharp. Not only is cutting with sharp knives much easier, it's also much safer because you are using less force. You can keep your knives sharp in various ways but getting a home sharpener is a great way to maintain their finely honed edge.
There is a wide range of knife sharpeners available to the home cook. Here are some of the better rated ones on Amazon.
Electric Knife Sharpeners
There are several different electric knife sharpeners that are recommended. Because they are electric it takes less time and energy to get your knives just as sharp. However, they do have moving parts that can break.
The Presto Pro knife sharpener is a 2 stage system and is one of the best, low cost options available.
One of the only 3 stage knife sharpeners, the Chef's Choice gives you finer control over the sharpening process. Though this control does come at a higher price point.
Manual Knife Sharpeners
Manual knife sharpeners don't give you the same speed and control as an electric sharpener but they are usually significantly less expensive.
The Wusthof knife sharpener has two stages for better sharpening and is also very inexpensive.
This is the knife sharpener I recently got. It has a good amount of sharpening power while still being very inexpensive
Specialty Knife Sharpeners
Global Knives have a steeper angle of the blade so they require a special sharpener. This is the highest recommend sharpener to use on them.
Santoku knives require a special sharpener due to their different blade angles. This Wusthof sharpener is made specifically to work with these knives.
